Serving God overseas as a family in a cross-cultural setting is life-changing and enriching. It is also challenging. Before boarding a flight, or even joining a mission agency, there are many things to consider. Safety, education, health, separation from extended family, and the long term impact of children growing up as Third Culture Kids (TCKs) are a few of them.
Authors Gill and Steve Bryant wrote Serving at the Ends of the Earth as a comprehensive guide for parents, both those preparing to go and those already serving. The Bryants are WEC’s International MK Consultants and experts in their field, having worked with TCKs and their families for many years.
The book covers a range of topics, from preparation through transition, healthy Christian families, safety (including cyber security), educational options to re-entry, including profiles of TCKs. Appendices include a questionnaire for education planning, keeping an educational portfolio, and a comparison of university entrance requirements; and it concludes with a comprehensive bibliography.
For families preparing to move overseas it is an important read; for families already serving it is an ideal book to dip into when issues arise.
It is available from WEC Australia for $AUD15.00 plus postage.
