Christmas

“There is the vague understanding that Christmas has something to do with a very fat man sporting an impressive beard, and that red is an important colour.”

When I read this in one of the articles in this Christmas edition of Imagine it made me sad. Sad that in the country written about, not only have most people not heard about Christmas, those who have heard have the wrong idea of what it’s about.

This is not unusual. For millions of people in countries where Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, Animism or Atheism are the predominant belief systems, the wondrous news of the incarnation of Jesus - that “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us” (John 1: 14 NIV) - is completely lost. It’s just another day of the year.

Around the world WEC’s workers are having opportunities amongst those with whom they are living to share the Christmas story and the hope it brings. We bring you some of these stories in the articles below. Whether it be to drug addicts, seniors, children or neighbours, the Christmas message is being told. Many will hear it for the first time and our prayer is that it will draw people to the one who came “to seek and to save the lost.” (Luke 19:10)

As you read these Christmas stories, I encourage you to think about how you could reach out to those around you to share the true meaning of Christmas. Perhaps you could invite them to a Christmas meal or a church or carol service, offer some literature which explains the story of Christ’s birth, or put a Christmas message on Social Media.
